Danse Macabre
Danse Macabre features three tragicomic, fragile characters who no longer fit into the social norm and, in their distress, unite to form the equivalent of a family. The stage set-up evokes an abandoned rubbish dump, where everything that can no longer be used or disposed of is piled up. The disparate trio of Danse Macabre settle in this lost place, setting out to found a shared existence.
Despite setbacks and relationship difficulties, the three characters, played by Zimmermann's favorite artists, always pick themselves up, reach common ground and find unexpected outcomes. Another figure hovers over this fragile little community: death. Embodied by Martin Zimmermann, this taunting death pulls the strings and intervenes in the unfolding of the scene, but without the performers being able to see him.

Humour, magic and absurdity are the unique features of Martin Zimmermann’s artistic work. For his plays he creates bizarre worlds and stages his figures and unusual objects. He often takes everyday things from reality and places them in parallel worlds where they seem strangely out of place and absurd. He throws conventions out of kilter, questions regularities, reveals the invisible, makes the improbable appear to be true and incites the viewer to think differently.
