When Westerners expectations meet reality during their stay in Cambodia, they’re often destabilized but also mesmerized by the way people live, commute, dress, eat and express. On the contrary, influence from the West slowly meddles in Cambodian society with huge effects on daily lives.
Through a series of everyday situations, “Same Same But Different” explores the different habits and ways of living between Cambodians and foreign visitors. A sudden downpour, an unexpected power outage, a hectic boat trip and a relaxing dinner all provide the backdrops for funny encounters and opposing perspectives.
But in every situation they find understanding and connect at a human level. Experimenting the obsession of precision versus adaptation, outspokenness versus the fear of face loss, individualism versus clan interest, irritation from hazard versus present enjoyment, they will eventually find out that rather than confronting, their different approaches enrich one another.

Phare Ponleu Selpak (PPS), meaning « the Brightness of the Arts », is a non-profit Cambodian association improving the lives of children, young adults, and their families with art schools, educational programs, and social support since 1994. It was created by 9 young Cambodians who returned to their country after spending their childhood in a refugee camp at the Thai border, attending drawing classes by a French humanitarian named Véronique Decrop.
The circus school welcomes and trains children and teenagers in several disciplines: acrobatics, juggling, balancing, contortion, aerials and clowning. PPS shows mix different ingredients such as impressive circus techniques, choreographies, comedy, and live music. They present unique stories with a strong Cambodian identity, still incorporating external formal influences and giving priority to creation.
